A Winter in Peru

Instead of a hymn post today, I thought I would give an update on what I’ve been up to this summer. I arrived in Peru at the end of June, and I am to fly out this Friday to return to Texas. I have been working with a group of seven others, all of whom have some connexion to the university I attend in Tennessee, and we have been working with a congregation of the Lord’s church that has recently been planted in Cusco, Peru, a 900-year-old city that was once the capital of the Inca Empire. We have been teaching English with the Bible (using the World English Institute curriculum). It’s been a wonderful time, and I am a bit sad to be leaving, though glad at the same time that I have been able to spend so much time here. Read More

Hymn of the Week – How Firm a Foundation

Lyrics by John Rip颅pon, 1787
Music by Jo颅seph Funk, 1832
Audio recording from the TV Program “In Search of the Lord’s Way

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid;
I鈥檒l strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld by My gracious, omnipotent hand.

E’en down to old age all My people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.

The soul that on Jesus has leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I鈥檒l never, no never, no never forsake.
