Hymn of the Week – Savior, Breathe an Evening Blessing

Savior, breathe an evening blessing
Ere repose our spirits seal;
Sin and want we come confessing:
Thou canst save and Thou canst heal.

Though destruction walk around us,
Though the arrows past us fly,
Angel guards from Thee surround us:
We are safe if Thou art nigh.

Though the night be dark and dreary,
Darkness cannot hide from Thee;
Thou art He who, never weary,
Watchest where Thy people be.

Should swift death this night o’ertake us,
And our couch become our tomb,
May the morn in heav’n awake us,
Clad in bright and deathless bloom.

Amen.

Hymn of the Week – In the Morning of Joy

Words: Mrs. R.A. Evilsizer (1895)
Music: Anthony J. Showalter (1895)
Sheet music

When the trumpet shall sound,
And the dead shall arise,
And the splendors immortal
Shall envelope the skies,
When the angel of death
Shall no longer destroy,
And the the dead shall awaken
In the morning of joy;

In the morning of joy,
In the morning of joy,
We’ll be gathered to glory
In the morning of joy;
In the morning of joy,
In the morning of joy,
We’ll be gathered to glory
In the morning of joy.

When the King shall appear,
In His beauty on high,
And shall summon His children
To the courts of the sky,
Shall the cause of the Lord
Have been all your employ,
That your soul may be spotless
In the morning of joy?

Oh, the bliss of that morn
When our loved ones we meet,
With the songs of the ransomed
We each other shall greet,
Singing praise to the Lamb,
Through eternity’s years,
With the past all forgotten
With its sorrows and tears.

The Lord鈥檚 my Shepherd, I鈥檒l not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again;
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Even for His own Name鈥檚 sake.

Yea, though I walk in death鈥檚 dark vale,
Yet will I fear no ill;
For Thou art with me; and Thy rod
And staff me comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnish猫d
In presence of my foes;
My head Thou dost with oil anoint,
And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life
Shall surely follow me;
And in God鈥檚 house forevermore
My dwelling place shall be.

Hymn of the Week – The Lord's Supper

Music and poetry by Tillit S. Teddlie

When we meet in sweet communion
Where the feast divine is spread;
Hearts are brought in closer union
While partaking of the bread.

Precious feast all else surpassing,
Wondrous love for you and me,
While we feast Christ gently whispers:
“Do this in My memory.”

“God so loved” what wondrous measure!
Loved and gave the best of heaven;
Bought us with that matchless treasure
Yea, for us His life was given.

Feast divine, all else surpassing,
Precious blood for you and me,
While we sup, Christ gently whispers:
“Do this in My memory.”

Hymn of the Week – He Loves Me

Words by L.O. Sanderson
Music arranged by L.O. Sanderson

Why did the Savior heaven leave
And come to earth below
Where men His grace would not receive?
Because He loves me so!

He loves me!
He loves me!
He loves me, this I know!
He gave Himself to die for me,
Because He loves me so!

Why did the Savior mark the way,
And why temptation know?
Why teach and toil and plead and pray?
Because He loves me so!

Why feel the garden’s dreadful dross?
Why through His trials go?
Why suffer death upon the cross?
Because He loves me so!
